October 31-November 6, 2005
Hey everyone...
Another week over! Scary, hey!
Hope everyone has been well...most of you are keeping in contact with me and being good little boys and girls, but some of you have escaped into thenever-neverland!! Where are you? Nat, Carly, Athina, Lori, Chihpin?? I wanna hear from you!!!That's why I am embarassing you infront of everyone who would be reading this email! hehe
Well this past week was another one full of adventures....
Last Monday (October 31st) was any other ordinary day - just had uni and alot of study to do.....Tuesday however was mildly more interesting...I wentto the movies late in the afternoon with Emerald - as it was half priceTuesday - yes the cheap
Tuesday theme is the same the world over, hey!!? I saw an amazing, explosive movie called "Domino." Don't know if it is out yet (or has been) in Australia yet, but for those ho like action movies, thickplots and Keira Knightely, you should definately go and see it!! Thoroughly enjoyed it! The movie theatre was so small - 30 seats in a room that would have been slightly bigger than my loungeroom at home - that's Tokyo for you!!
On Tuesday evening I met up with one of my students who I teach English to. His vocab and grammar is improving really well and we had fun talking about a range of topics from Australian Aboriginal history to the Sydney club scene!!
Wednesday November 2nd was my usual Wednesday off - I spent used the day to get ahead with all my homework and studies as Kazuya came to visit me on Thursday and Friday.
Thursday November 3rd was a National Holiday here - Culture Day - so I had the day off from uni. Kazuya came in the morning and we joined 3 other friends at Ueno and went to the Ueno Zoo and the Tokyo Museum of Western Art. Managed to score ourselves 3 free TRIAL electronic navigators, so used those to access information at the zoo that was transmitted to our handsets via electronic information posts - very cool technology really! The Art Museum was very nice - although I am not a big artistic fan so Iwasn't as impressed as Kazuya who is in love with anything arty and takes 5minutes to read EVERY slide and portrait explanation - you know those people who TAKE FOREVER!!! hahaha
Following the Museum, we went to a market at Ameyoko - got pushed from one side of the street to the other - but it was kind of fun, battling throughthe crowds. Had a nice sushi dinner at one of the many "kaitens"(merry-go-round sushi restaurants - where the sushi travels on a conveyorbelt and you can pick up what you want).
Kazuya stayed on Thursday night and then on Friday 4th we went on a shopping spree in Harajuku. Kazuya desperately wanted to buy a black coat which he had seen for sale on the Internet, so we searched all day for one that he liked. I also bought a $100 hooded jacket - very nice material and very warm!! Will definately come in handy for the Winter that is already well on its way!! (brrrrrr!!)
Had a nice brunch before the spree at an all-you-can-eat Italian buffet -stuffed ourselves with pasta, bread, meat, salad, and desserts!! Kazuya is avery good critic of food - even he said it was delicious!
On Friday night we enjoyed dinner at a traditional Yakiniku Restaurant -where you cook the meat and vegetables at your table yourself.
Kazuya stayed on Friday night and then on Saturday morning I saw him off at Shinjuku bus terminal.
Yesterday (Saturday 5th) after saying goodbye to Kazuya, came back and did some more study - ad then went out to a movie screening night at a Cafe at Takadanobaba (near my university).Watched a few short films while I enjoyed a smoked salmon bagle (veryun-Japanese!!!). Had a good night chatting with friends and met a fewJapanese guys who produce short films...they invited me and my mates to film one with them some time! Should be a great opportunity!
And today I slept in!! Very sleepy......then headed to uni for our theannual Waseda University Festival - watched dancers and breakdancers perform as well as cheerleaders too. Got an email address of one of the dancing groups, so would love to join in a few weeks time and learn some of the moves. I think dancing is such a cathartic experience. A great way toexercise and have fun at the same time! A great social activity!
Watched a discussion in the International Studies building on world issues - from disarmament to civil conflicts in Sub-Saharan Africa. Very interesting although couldn't hear that well - so got a friend to do a bit oftranslating for me....
Have just come back from dinner and another study session...very tired after yet another busy week.
Look forward to hearing from everyone throughout the week....
Take care guys and speak soon....
